Power Of Knowledge is taking an unusual route, but there is enough substance behind his debut to make him interesting.

He’s by Camelot out of Annie Power, so his pedigree inevitably attracts attention, but I’m not selecting him simply because of that. The important evidence is his Galway debut, where he finished fifth after starting favourite and did not enjoy a completely clear passage in the closing stages. The form of that bumper has subsequently worked out positively.

Willie Mullins now sends him straight over hurdles rather than returning for another bumper.

That’s a significant move.

Mark Walsh has been booked, and the combination of Mullins and Walsh adds confidence that he has shown enough jumping ability at home to justify starting his hurdling career in this spot.

Kilbeggan is currently Good to Yielding, and the two-mile trip should be suitable given the speed in his Flat-oriented Camelot pedigree alongside the stamina coming through Annie Power.

First Ascent, Whats New and Firebrand provide useful established opposition, so Power Of Knowledge isn’t entitled to win merely on reputation. Firebrand already has an OR106, while several have more hurdling experience.

But very few possess his potential upside.

The early forecast had him considerably bigger, but the current available market has him around 2/1. That’s approaching the bottom of the acceptable range, but my model still has him closer to 13/8.
