Wyle Cop has completely changed his profile since concentrating on five furlongs at Lingfield and arrives attempting a course-and-distance hat-trick.

He won over this C&D before producing an even stronger performance here last time, landing another handicap by 2¼ lengths after being heavily supported. That victory came from OR72 and was good enough for the handicapper to raise him 7lb to OR79, so tomorrow requires another career best. The important point, though, is that his recent performances suggest he is still improving rather than merely beating exposed Class 6 opposition.

The course evidence is a particularly strong positive. Lingfield’s sharp five furlongs can favour horses that handle its bends and positioning requirements, and Wyle Cop has now proved twice that the setup suits him.

Jason Watson keeps the ride for Jack Jones, whose yard is currently in good form. Stall four is also perfectly workable in a six-runner field.

The class rise is the biggest concern. Diomed Duke is in excellent form, having won before finishing only a length away in a stronger race at Newmarket from his current mark. Truly Glamorous can also bounce back now dropping in grade.

But Wyle Cop’s improving profile gives him more upside than most of these. The model makes him around a 38% chance, against the 33% implied by 2/1.
